In a major political development in Rivers State, six members of the House of Representatives aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers announced their defection during plenary on Tuesday, signaling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
The defecting House members are Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Victor Obuzor, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, Hon. Cyril Hart, Hon. Blessing Amadi, and Hon. Felix Nwaeke. Their exit further weakens the PDP’s hold in Rivers State while strengthening the APC’s growing influence at the federal level.
In a related development, two serving senators from Rivers State, also known to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, formally crossed over from the PDP to the APC on the floor of the Senate. Their defection was announced in the Red Chamber during plenary proceedings.
The senators are Sen. Onyesoh Alwell, who represents Rivers East Senatorial District, and Sen. Barry Mpigi, representing the Rivers South-East Senatorial District. Their move adds to the momentum of defections reshaping party alignments ahead of future political contests.
