Nigeria recently experienced a nationwide blackout following the collapse of the national electricity grid, disrupting power supply across multiple states. In response, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has confirmed that restoration of electricity supply is already in progress.
According to NISO, power has been successfully restored to key locations including Abuja, Osogbo, Benin City, Onitsha, parts of Lagos State, and areas within Niger State. The agency assured the public that efforts are ongoing to progressively restore electricity to other affected regions across the country.
In an official statement, NISO explained that preliminary findings point to the simultaneous tripping of several 330kV transmission lines as the primary cause of the system collapse. The situation was further worsened by the disconnection of some grid-connected power generating units, leading to a complete shutdown of the national grid.

NISO emphasized that engineers and technical teams are working round the clock to stabilize the grid and prevent future occurrences. The operator also reaffirmed its commitment to improving grid reliability and ensuring a more resilient power transmission system nationwide.
As restoration continues, electricity consumers are advised to remain patient while necessary technical measures are implemented to fully normalize supply.
