Senator Ned Nwoko urges the Nigeria Immigration Service to stop illegal migration and protect Nigerians from dangerous journeys abroad.
Senator Ned Nwoko has called on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to develop strategic measures aimed at preventing desperate Nigerians from embarking on perilous journeys abroad in search of greener pastures.
The lawmaker expressed concern over the increasing number of citizens risking their lives through illegal migration routes, which often result in tragic outcomes and tarnish Nigeria’s global image.
Nwoko emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated national approach to address the root causes of irregular migration, including unemployment, poor education, and lack of awareness about the dangers involved. He also appealed to the NIS to strengthen border security, intensify public enlightenment campaigns, and collaborate with relevant international agencies to protect Nigerian lives.
He further noted that preventing such tragedies would not only save lives but also safeguard the nation’s reputation in the global community.
Nwoko’s call comes amid growing concerns about the alarming rate of Nigerians falling victim to human traffickers and dying on risky migration routes across the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea.
