As Nigeria marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has called on Nigerians to remain resilient and optimistic in the face of current economic and social challenges.
Speaking at the Independence Day parade held at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Otti reminded citizens that though the nation may not have reached its ultimate destination, progress has been made over the years.
“We may not be where we want to be as a country, but we are certainly not where we used to be. While we continue to work hard towards that ultimate destination, none of us should lose hope. Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. The best is yet to come,” he stated.
Commitment to Development in Abia State
The Governor highlighted key progress made in Abia within the last 28 months of his administration, stressing improvements in education, healthcare, and security. According to him, schools have been renovated, more teachers deployed, and hospitals revitalized to serve citizens better.
Governor Otti further assured Abians that the state government remains fully committed to security, urging residents to cooperate by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
“If you see something, say something. Call the Nigerian Police, DSS, Army, or any security agency. We don’t sleep so that you can sleep,” he emphasized.
He also commended security service commanders in the state for their dedication and reassured citizens that his administration will continue to prioritize their safety and well-being.
Acknowledging Sacrifices and Unity
Governor Otti congratulated Nigerians on the 65th Independence Day celebration and appreciated those who have sacrificed for the country’s progress. He also thanked Abians for trusting his leadership, pledging continued transparency and commitment to governance.
Commending the Nigerian Police for their impressive parade performance, Otti encouraged citizens to continue supporting security agencies to boost their morale and effectiveness.

The ceremony was graced by top government officials including the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, service commanders, traditional rulers led by Eze Linus Nto Mbah, and several dignitaries.
