Nigeria Police Arrest Creator of Fake Abuja Bandit Video

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a man linked to a misleading video that falsely suggested a bandit attack in Abuja. The suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, was apprehended in the Bwari area following investigations into the viral clip.

According to police authorities, the video was not genuine but rather a manipulated production. It reportedly featured recycled footage combined with added gunshot sounds to create a false impression of violence. During interrogation, Joseph admitted to fabricating the video with the intention of attracting attention and boosting engagement on social media platforms.

The Ahmed Sanusi, who addressed the matter, condemned the act and emphasized the dangers of spreading false information. He warned that such content could incite fear, disrupt public order, and undermine ongoing security efforts. The suspect is now facing charges related to incitement and the deliberate spread of misinformation.

Authorities noted that the circulation of the fake video coincided with heightened security concerns in the country. These include ongoing legal proceedings involving Boko Haram suspects, some of whom have been transported to Abuja for trial. Additionally, a recent security advisory issued by the U.S. Embassy had already put residents on alert, further amplifying public anxiety.

The police reiterated their commitment to tackling fake news and urged citizens to verify information before sharing it online. They stressed that misinformation, especially in a sensitive security climate, can have serious consequences for national stability.
