Nigeria Police remove ACP Benjamin Hundeyin as Force PRO six months after his appointment following leadership changes under new IGP Olatunji Disu.
The Nigeria Police Force has removed Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin from his role as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), barely six months after he assumed the position.
Hundeyin, who was appointed in September 2025, was relieved of his duties on Thursday. His removal comes shortly after his recent promotion within the police hierarchy and follows a major leadership change in the force.
Earlier this week, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, officially swore in Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police. Disu took over from Kayode Egbetokun, marking a new phase in the leadership of the police institution.
Although the police authorities have not issued a formal statement explaining the decision or announcing Hundeyin’s replacement, the development has already generated reactions among observers and security analysts.
During his brief tenure as Force PRO, Hundeyin became a prominent voice for the police, regularly addressing public concerns, security incidents, and controversial issues involving the force. Supporters praised him for his communication skills and professionalism in handling sensitive matters involving law enforcement.
However, critics argued that some of his responses to public criticisms appeared overly defensive, particularly on social media where he frequently engaged with citizens and commentators.
Security analysts believe the decision may simply reflect routine restructuring that often accompanies the appointment of a new Inspector-General of Police. Leadership transitions within the Nigeria Police Force typically lead to redeployments as new administrators assemble their preferred teams.

For now, the police leadership has yet to name a new spokesperson for the force, leaving questions about who will assume the critical role of communicating police policies and responses to the public.
The development highlights the ongoing adjustments within the Nigeria Police Force following the recent change at the top of the institution.
