The Nigerian Army has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing counter-banditry campaign with the elimination of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Kallamu during a targeted military ambush in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to reports from the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, troops acted on credible intelligence that revealed the movements of Kallamu and his fighters. The operation resulted in the neutralization of 11 armed bandits, including Kallamu and a key logistics supplier linked to the Turji-led criminal network operating across the Northwest.
The troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles, several magazines, and rounds of ammunition from the scene, further weakening the firepower of the criminal group. Military sources confirmed that Kallamu had previously fled to Kogi State to evade security pressure but secretly returned to the Northwest before meeting his end.
Security officials described the development as a significant success in the fight against banditry, which has long destabilized communities in the region. The accomplishment, they added, was made possible through the combined efforts of local vigilante groups, community informants, and ongoing intelligence-driven operations.

Despite the victory, some residents have called for photo evidence of the neutralized bandit leader for confirmation. The Nigerian Army, however, noted that clearance and follow-up operations are still underway across several hideouts to ensure sustained security in the area.
