Navy Lieutenant A.M. Yarima escapes an alleged assassination attempt in Abuja after confronting FCT Minister Wike. Calls for urgent investigation grow.
A tense situation unfolded in Abuja on Sunday evening as Lieutenant A.M. Yarima of the Nigerian Navy reportedly escaped an attempted assassination by unidentified assailants. Yarima, who recently gained national attention after confronting Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike over a controversial land demolition in Gaduwa District, was allegedly trailed by armed men in unmarked Hilux vehicles.
According to eyewitness accounts, the naval officer had just exited a NIPCO filling station along the Line Expressway when the suspicious vehicles began to tail him. The assailants, described as men dressed in black, accelerated aggressively as they pursued him toward Gado Nasco Way. Sensing danger, Lieutenant Yarima is said to have taken evasive action to avoid capture or harm.
Military sources confirmed the incident but noted that no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. The development has intensified concerns about rising threats against military personnel involved in public disputes, especially following the circulation of a viral video showing Yarima’s confrontation with the FCT Minister.

Security experts and civil society groups are calling for an urgent and transparent investigation to determine the identities of the attackers and the motive behind the attempted pursuit. Many fear that the incident could further heighten tensions in the Federal Capital Territory if left unaddressed.
As Nigerians continue to react to the unfolding situation, the safety of Lieutenant Yarima and the broader implications for military-civil relations remain key concerns that authorities must urgently address.
