Nigerian troops dismantle IPOB stronghold in Anambra, neutralize one suspect, arrest two, and recover weapons in Operation UDO KA raid.
Security forces under the Joint Task Force South East (JTF-SE), operating through Operation UDO KA, have dismantled a suspected IPOB/ESN stronghold in Anambra State during a coordinated raid. The operation targeted an enclave known as “Mother Valley” located in Nkwere, an area security authorities described as a key base for insurgent activities.
The raid, carried out on February 26, involved personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to security sources, troops successfully cleared the camp, neutralizing one suspected fighter and arresting two others. One of the suspects was reportedly caught attempting to plant an improvised explosive device (IED), while another was accused of acting as a spy.
Recovered items from the site included pump-action guns, Biafran flags, and other materials believed to be linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Security operatives also destroyed camp infrastructure, including makeshift shelters, a generator, and solar panels used to power the hideout.
No casualties were recorded among security personnel during the operation, authorities confirmed. The raid forms part of ongoing efforts to restore stability in Nigeria’s South-East region, where tensions have persisted amid separatist activities and security concerns.
Public reactions to the development have been mixed. While some residents commended the troops for taking decisive action, others called for broader security operations targeting criminal groups in other parts of the country, including armed bandits in the North.
