Nnamdi Kanu convicted on all seven terrorism charges in a chaotic Abuja court session as Justice Omotosho rules evidence proved the case; sentencing expected today.

The Federal High Court in Abuja witnessed a dramatic and tense session on Thursday as Justice James Omotosho convicted Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on all seven terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

According to the court, the prosecution successfully established a compelling case with unchallenged evidence, including allegedly violent broadcasts, enforcement of illegal sit-at-home orders, and directives linked to bomb-making activities. Justice Omotosho ruled that the materials presented before the court met the threshold required for a terrorism conviction under Nigerian law.

Courtroom Erupts as Kanu Challenges the Judge

The proceedings took an unexpected turn when Kanu openly confronted the judge, accusing him of bias and misconduct. The outburst led to a heated exchange involving lawyers and security operatives, forcing Justice Omotosho to order Kanu’s removal from the courtroom.

Despite the disruption, the court continued the judgment delivery, emphasizing that the defendant’s conduct would not impede the legal process.

Sentencing Expected Later Today

Some of the terrorism charges carry life imprisonment or potential capital punishment, making the upcoming sentencing a highly anticipated moment. The court scheduled the sentencing for later today, with legal analysts predicting an immediate appeal from Kanu’s defense team.

Polarized Reactions Across Nigeria

The verdict has sparked intense debate online, with supporters of Kanu alleging political persecution while others praise the ruling as a necessary step toward national security. Security agencies have been placed on alert in major southeastern cities due to possible protests.
