Nnamdi Kanu files a Supreme Court motion to stop his terrorism trial, citing a repealed law and constitutional violations.
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a motion before the Supreme Court of Nigeria seeking to halt his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Kanu, who appeared before the apex court on November 13, 2025, submitted an urgent application through his legal team, led by Barrister Ifeanyi Ejimakor, arguing that several of the charges against him are based on the repealed Customs and Excise Management Act. His motion comes just days before the November 20 judgment in the terrorism case.

Ejimakor contended that the Federal Government’s continued prosecution of Kanu violates his fundamental constitutional rights, particularly given the unlawful rendition from Kenya in 2021—a move previously ruled illegal by the Court of Appeal in 2022 before the decision was later overturned in 2023.
During his appearance, Kanu was warmly received by crowds of supporters and even Supreme Court staff, who cheered as he arrived at the court premises. Among those who voiced support was Atiku Isah, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Isah praised Kanu’s “cross-ethnic influence and resilience,” recalling their shared experiences during detention. He also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider Kanu’s release as a gesture of reconciliation and national unity.
