Nnamdi Kanu speaks from Sokoto Prison, insisting his conviction is illegal and based on a repealed law, raising major concerns about due process and justice.

Fresh details have emerged from a recent visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Medium Security Prison, where the detained IPOB leader strongly questioned the legality of his conviction. Prince Emmanuel Kanu, alongside legal practitioner Dr. Maxwell Opara, disclosed that Kanu is deeply concerned about what he describes as grave constitutional violations in his case.

According to them, Kanu maintains that his conviction was based on a repealed law, a move he argues contradicts Nigeria’s constitutional and judicial standards. He further alleged that his final written address, which centred on issues of fair hearing, was not considered a development his legal team views as a severe procedural breach.

Kanu also raised alarms over the evidence presented against him, claiming it was neither listed in the charge sheet nor formally tendered before the court. More troubling, he said, was the court’s decision to rely on struck-out charges previously dismissed by Justice Binta Nyako during an earlier phase of the trial.

After personally examining the judgment, Kanu reportedly identified several inconsistencies and questioned why established rulings from the Umuahia High Court, the Enugu judiciary, the Court of Appeal, the United Nations, and even the Supreme Court all of which affirmed that the laws invoked against him had been repealed were allegedly overlooked.

Despite his grievances, Kanu expressed profound appreciation to Nigerians and international supporters who continue to advocate for justice, noting that injustice anywhere remains a threat to peace and fairness everywhere, regardless of ethnicity or religion.
