The Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency Champions League Unity Cup reached an electrifying climax on Sunday, August 10, 2025, as Ubakala Football Club emerged champions after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Olokoro FC.
The thrilling final, flagged off by Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, drew a massive crowd of football enthusiasts, political leaders, religious figures, and community stakeholders.
Ubakala FC Clinches Victory
Both Ubakala and Olokoro FC showcased grit, skill, and determination, but it was Ubakala’s decisive goal that secured the trophy. The competition has gained recognition as more than a football tournament, it has become a platform for peace, unity, and youth empowerment across the constituency.

Among the dignitaries present were the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Meregini, alongside Hon. Chinasa Anthony Abiola, Hon. Tommy Obioma, Hon. Boniface Ishienyi, Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko, and various youth leaders.

While presenting the trophy to the winners, Hon. Aguocha praised the tournament as a celebration of shared values and community spirit.

Female Football Tournament to Debut Next Year
In a major announcement, Aguocha pledged that the next edition of the Unity Cup will feature a female football category to encourage inclusivity and provide equal opportunities for young women in sports.
“Next year, we are taking this a step further by introducing a female football category. Our young women have the same potential and passion, and they deserve the opportunity to showcase their talent,” he affirmed.

The lawmaker emphasized that investing in sports is a strategic approach to youth development, helping to channel their energy into productive ventures while discouraging crime and negative lifestyles.
“When our youths are engaged in sports, they develop discipline, teamwork, and resilience—qualities that prepare them for success in life,” he added.
