Above subject matter refers.
- The attention of Hon. Obi Aguocha has been drawn concerning the above stated conflict today.
- The Honourable member is dismayed by the experience and reoccurring boundary conflicts and attack on the Ariam Elu-elu and Ndiorie communities in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State from their neighbouring communities in Akwa Ibom State.
- These disputes have often resulted in significant loss of life and property. For instance, between May 2020 and January 2021, reports indicated that at least 200 persons were murdered, with many others still missing due to random and persistent attacks on Usaka Ukwu, Azunchai, Ekpiri Ala-ala, and Ariam Elu-elu communities in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State by their Nkari and Obot Akaran neighbours in Ini and Obot Akara LGA’s of Akwa Ibom State.
- In response to these ongoing issues. Honourable Obi Aguocha condemns today’s murder of innocent Ariam-Usaka citizens. Hon. Obi Aguocha has also drawn the attention of relevant state and federal government agencies to the plight of our people, and these include, Abia State Government, the Nigeria Police, Department of State Security, National Boundary Commission, among others. He will also move a motion of urgent national importance this week to accentuate the urgent need for the intervention of security agencies within the conflict areas for lasting peace.
- The Honourable member calls on the Mayor of Ikwuano, Government office holders in Ikwuano, Traditional Rulers, community leaders, youths, and stakeholders to remain law-abiding despite the threats and provocation of these protracted and aggressive actions by our Akwa Ibom neighbours.
- To this effect, the Honourable member will support peace and Ariam Usaka with an initial N1m to ensure that all necessary steps are made to evacuate and help the wounded and restore peace and harmony in our community.
