Obinna Oriaku reacts to the withdrawal of his FCC nomination, emphasizing accountability, political resistance, and his ongoing commitment to public service.
Former Commissioner for Finance in Abia State, Chief Obinna Oriaku, has responded to the withdrawal of his nomination as the state’s representative on the Federal Character Commission (FCC), describing the development as a testament to the difficulties faced by individuals who push for accountability in government.
Oriaku, whose nomination had already been screened and confirmed by the Senate, disclosed that he received a call on Monday from a serving senator, informing him that the Presidency had substituted his name. He said the decision, although unexpected, reflects the “price” that often accompanies the pursuit of transparency and fairness in public institutions.
According to Oriaku, the resistance he encountered is typical of efforts to challenge entrenched interests in governance, stating that “corruption never retreats quietly.” He argued that public officials who advocate for reforms must be prepared for pushback, especially when their efforts disrupt established systems.
Despite the setback, Oriaku stated that he harbors no bitterness towards anyone, emphasizing that appointments into federal positions ultimately fall within the constitutional powers of the President. He stressed that as a believer in democratic principles, he respects whatever decision the President makes regarding appointments.
The former commissioner confirmed that a petition was submitted against him, allegedly from the Abia State Government or one of its agencies. He maintained that the petition would not silence him or prevent him from commenting on developments in the state. He insisted that his public interventions have always been driven by facts, integrity, and a genuine concern for citizens.
Addressing his supporters, Oriaku urged them not to be discouraged, revealing that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels are already reviewing the matter. He added that the incident further shows the influence of their advocacy for accountability in Abia State.
He also confirmed that his planned programme on Magic FM, where he will discuss the 2026 budget proposal for Abia State, will proceed as scheduled.
Concluding his statement, Oriaku reaffirmed his belief in divine purpose, noting that power ultimately comes from God, and His plans remain perfect regardless of human decisions.
