NAF confirms safe arrival of C-130 in Accra as detained crew are released in Burkina Faso and head to Portugal for scheduled aircraft maintenance.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has provided an official update on its C-130 Hercules aircraft, confirming that the aircraft has arrived safely in Accra, Ghana, in accordance with a revised flight plan, as it prepares for onward movement to Portugal for scheduled depot maintenance.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the C-130 aircraft is serviceable and operating in line with approved aviation standards. The aircraft is expected to continue its journey to Portugal via Banjul and Casablanca, where it will undergo routine maintenance as part of the Air Force’s commitment to operational readiness.
Air Commodore Ejodame expressed appreciation to members of the public for their concern and support, assuring Nigerians that all personnel involved remain safe. He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Air Force continues to uphold the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and accountability in all its operations.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has confirmed the release and departure of the pilots and crew of the Nigerian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft, NAF 913, who were previously detained in Burkina Faso.
In a statement released on Thursday, Ambassador Tuggar disclosed that following sustained diplomatic engagement with authorities in Burkina Faso, the pilots and crew were formally cleared and have since departed. They are currently en route to Portugal via Accra, in line with the aircraft’s revised operational plan.
The Minister emphasized Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and regional cooperation, noting that constructive engagement continues to produce positive results across the sub-region.
Ambassador Tuggar also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and steady guidance, describing his diplomatic approach as instrumental in resolving the situation peacefully through mutual respect and cooperation.
