Abuja, Nigeria – May 30, 2025
Ọganihu Ndigbo, a pan-Igbo socio-political group, has issued a strong commendation of Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, for his unwavering commitment and consistent solidarity with detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The group described Aguocha’s actions as “historic, courageous, and deeply representative of Igbo moral consciousness.”
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, High-Chief Uchechukwu Nnadi, and made available to journalists in Abuja, Ọganihu Ndigbo praised Hon. Aguocha for “not abandoning his brother, his constituent, and a cultural symbol of Igbo struggle” in the face of political danger and institutional resistance.
“In Hon. Obi Aguocha, we see a true Igbo son, one who does not choose political convenience over moral responsibility,” the statement read.
“At a time when many politicians either hide behind silence or toe the line of federal comfort, Hon. Aguocha has chosen the path of truth, of justice, and of conscience. That is the essence of onye aghala nwanne ya.”
Hon. Aguocha was once again present in court on May 28th, 2025, standing alongside Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during a critical legal proceeding.
The lawmaker’s presence marked yet another episode in what has become a consistent and public show of moral, political, and personal support for his constituent and kinsman, whose incarceration continues to generate national and international concern.
According to Ọganihu Ndigbo, Aguocha’s solidarity goes beyond symbolism, it is an “active, sacrificial act of representation that the Igbo nation will never forget.”
“What Hon. Aguocha is doing is not performance, it is history in action. He is carrying the burdens of a people long marginalized and misunderstood. His voice in the National Assembly, and his feet in the courtroom, remind the world that we still have leaders who choose conviction over comfort,” Nnamdi noted.
The group further acknowledged Aguocha’s legislative efforts, including his recent motion in the House of Representatives urging a political resolution to Kanu’s case. They described the lawmaker’s call as “bold and necessary in a democracy that claims to value dialogue and justice.”
“We are not asking for lawlessness. We are asking for fairness, for justice, and for a political solution rooted in reconciliation, not retribution. Hon. Aguocha understands this. He is calling for healing, not havoc,” the group emphasized.
Ọganihu Ndigbo also pointed to the recent emotional exchange between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Hon. Obi Aguocha in court, where Kanu declared, “Oga diri gi na nma,” a heartfelt blessing that means “It shall be well with you.” The group hailed the moment as deeply symbolic and spiritually powerful.
“When Ohamadike Ndi Igbo spoke those words, it was not mere sentiment. It was a blessing rooted in pain, in gratitude, and in a recognition of a rare kind of political courage. It was a message to all Igbos: we have a man in Abuja who has not forgotten us.”
The group urged other Igbo leaders; traditional, political, and religious, to emulate Hon. Aguocha’s example by standing up for justice and not allowing political fear to silence truth.
“This is not just about Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It is about the future of representative politics in Igbo land. It is about the kind of leaders we need, leaders who will speak when it is dangerous, stand when it is unpopular, and defend our people when they are most vulnerable.”
As calls for a political resolution to Mazi Kanu’s prolonged detention continue to mount, Ọganihu Ndigbo reiterated its position that the matter can no longer be treated solely as a legal issue.
“The continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a stain on the conscience of the Nigerian federation. We call on President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the judiciary to demonstrate statesmanship and embrace dialogue. The path of peace is never paved with vengeance.”
In closing, the group declared Hon. Obi Aguocha “a shining light of conscience-led leadership” and vowed to mobilize support for him across the South East.
“Posterity will remember his name. The children of Alaigbo will sing his story. Hon. Aguocha has not just stood with Nnamdi Kanu; he has stood with a people, with justice, and with history.”
With this resounding endorsement, Hon. Obi Aguocha’s moral stand for his constituent, and for the broader cause of justice, gains renewed momentum, carrying with it the hope of millions who yearn for equity, peace, and the return of their son.
