Ohuhu community came alive with energy, camaraderie, and healthy competition on Sunday, 14 December 2025, as the Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing organized a captivating novelty football match. The exhibition game, played at the Umuagu Central School Field in Umuahia, featured an exciting face-off between the union’s executives and its general members.
The friendly encounter, generously sponsored by Chief Uchechukwu Udeji, widely known as Nwa Ghana, was more than a sporting contest. It was intentionally designed as a platform to promote unity, reconciliation, and social bonding among Ohuhu youths. From the opening kick-off to the final whistle, the match reflected shared purpose, mutual respect, and a strong sense of community identity.
On the pitch, both teams displayed impressive skill and determination, engaging in fluid passing, tactical battles in midfield, and spirited attacking play. After 90 minutes of evenly matched football, the game ended in a 1–1 draw, a fair reflection of the balance and commitment shown by both sides. The thrilling contest was eventually decided by a penalty shootout, where the executives emerged victorious with a narrow 7–6 win, igniting cheers from supporters.
Reacting to the event, the President of the Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing, Mr. Iheanacho Uchenna, described the novelty match as a historic initiative for the community. He commended the players for their discipline and sportsmanship, praised spectators for their peaceful conduct, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Udeji for sponsoring what he noted was the first football novelty match of its kind in Ohuhu.
Mr. Uchenna emphasized that the significance of the event went beyond the final scoreline, noting that it created lasting memories and strengthened youth solidarity. He assured members that the initiative would be sustained and expanded in future editions, promising continuous engagement and appreciation for the overwhelming support from Ohuhu youths.
In his remarks, Chief Uchechukwu Udeji explained that the idea behind sponsoring the match was to bring young people together in a relaxed and friendly environment. He highlighted football as a universal language capable of fostering peace, breaking social barriers, and strengthening friendships. While applauding both teams for their competitive yet fair approach, he stressed that the real victory was the renewed spirit of unity witnessed across the community.
