The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over what it describes as a systematic campaign of intimidation and coercion allegedly carried out by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken the opposition.

In a statement signed by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi (Chairman) and Sir Edward Percy Masha (Secretary), the forum accused the ruling party of using undemocratic tactics to pressure PDP governors, senators, and members of both the National and State Assemblies into defecting.

According to the statement, the forum’s crucial meeting, held on Monday, October 14, 2025, at the PDP FCT Secretariat in Abuja, focused on issues of unity, preparations for the upcoming National Elective Convention (November 15–16, 2025), and the general state of opposition politics across the country.

After extensive deliberations, the forum issued a strong-worded communiqué condemning what it termed the “APC’s desperate bid to erode multiparty democracy.” The chairmen described such moves as a “dangerous step toward a one-party state”, urging Nigerians to resist attempts to silence dissent or undermine the country’s democratic values.

The forum also addressed internal challenges within the PDP, expressing disappointment over the actions of Hon. Austine Nwachukwu (Imo State) and Hon. Amah Abraham Nnana (Abia State), who reportedly sought a court injunction to stop the national convention. Their actions were unanimously described as acts of sabotage and betrayal against the collective interests of the party.

As part of its resolutions, the PDP State Chairmen Forum suspended both members and reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and internal cohesion. The body also announced Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the Edo State PDP Chairman, as its new national chairman, pledging to continue steering the forum towards unity and resilience ahead of the national convention.

The statement concluded by urging PDP members across Nigeria to remain steadfast, resist intimidation, and stand firm in defending the principles of democracy, fairness, and accountability.
