Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has officially announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Speaking during the announcement, Obi urged Nigerians to embrace unity and collective responsibility, emphasizing that national rebirth requires cooperation beyond party lines. He called on citizens and political stakeholders to rally behind a broad-based coalition led by former Senate President David Mark, describing it as a vehicle for meaningful change.

According to Obi, the decision to join the ADC is driven by the need to build a strong, inclusive political family focused on rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges. He stressed that the coalition’s vision is anchored on good governance, accountability, and people-centered leadership.

“Let us come as a family under the coalition led by David Mark to turn around our dear country,” Obi stated, reaffirming his commitment to national service and reform.

Political analysts view Obi’s move as a strategic effort to consolidate opposition forces ahead of future elections, potentially reshaping alliances and voter dynamics across the country. Supporters believe the coalition could provide a credible platform for progressive leadership, while critics say its success will depend on internal cohesion and clear policy direction.
