Police Clarify Arrest of Omoyele Sowore Over Abuja Protest, Promise Fair Investigation
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, following his alleged involvement in a protest that took place in Abuja on Monday.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, Sowore’s arrest was necessary to ensure fairness and transparency in the ongoing investigation and prosecution of those who participated in the demonstration.

Hundeyin explained that Sowore allegedly led a group of protesters into a restricted area within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), thereby violating an existing court order. He assured the public that the police will handle the case in accordance with due process and that Sowore will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
The Force PRO emphasized that the Nigeria Police remain committed to upholding citizens’ rights while maintaining law and order. He urged Nigerians to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.
Sowore, known for his long-standing activism and political engagements, has often been at the center of national debates surrounding democracy, governance, and freedom of expression in Nigeria.
