President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a high-level Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to strengthen unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday in Lagos, underscoring the President’s commitment to internal cohesion, effective mobilisation, and proactive conflict management within the ruling party. The committee is composed of APC governors, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other prominent party stakeholders drawn from across the country.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was appointed Chairman of the committee, while Muiz Banire, a former National Legal Adviser of the APC, will serve as Member and Secretary. Other notable members include Senator Adamu Aliero; the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Also appointed to the committee are Governor Uba Sani (Kaduna), Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee members. He assured that the assignment would be carried out with diligence, responsibility, and a strong sense of purpose.
According to him, the committee will embark on wide-ranging consultations and strategic engagements aimed at developing a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable framework for party harmony. He emphasized that the focus would be on ensuring a sense of belonging for all members, particularly those who may feel aggrieved, while strengthening the party’s internal democracy.
Governor Buni also noted that the committee would adopt proactive approaches to conflict resolution by identifying potential threats early and deploying practical solutions to address disputes before they escalate. He urged members to put the collective interest of the party above personal considerations, stressing that unity remains critical to the APC’s long-term success.
President Tinubu had earlier emphasized the importance of party cohesion during the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. At the meeting, the President reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on the principles of progressive politics, inclusiveness, and respect for diverse opinions.
He called on party stakeholders to embrace tolerance and accommodation as essential pillars for sustaining democracy and strengthening the party’s resilience. According to the President, only a united and inclusive APC can effectively deliver on its democratic responsibilities and national vision.
