In a decisive move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced sweeping changes within the hierarchy of the nation’s military leadership.
According to a statement released by the State House and signed by Special Adviser to the President, Sunday Dare, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

Also named in the new appointments are Major-General W. Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff. Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for their dedicated service, patriotism, and leadership during their tenure. He further charged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate renewed professionalism, vigilance, and unity in their duties to safeguard the nation.
“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement confirmed.
This reshuffle underscores the administration’s continued commitment to fortifying Nigeria’s defence system and ensuring stability across all sectors of national security.
