Tension gripped Bende community in Abia State on Saturday as angry residents stormed the local police station to protest the alleged custodial death of a young man identified as Okorie Akobundu Wisdom.

According to eyewitness accounts, Wisdom described as a peaceful and law-abiding citizen was reportedly invited by police officers for questioning but later died while in custody. Locals claim he was brutally beaten by officers the previous evening, leading to his untimely death.

The shocking incident sparked widespread outrage, with hundreds of protesters taking to the streets, demanding justice and accountability. Demonstrators accused the police of misconduct and called for an independent investigation into Wisdom’s death.

In an attempt to disperse the crowd, police allegedly fired shots into the air, further escalating tensions in the area.

Reacting to the growing public outcry, the Abia State Police Command has promised to conduct a thorough investigation and autopsy to uncover the cause of death. However, the command has yet to release an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the incident.
