The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), marking a significant development in the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions form part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within the police hierarchy and enhance operational effectiveness across various departments and commands nationwide.

Among those elevated is Zachariah Fera Achinyan, fdc, who previously served as the AIG in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi. Also promoted is Zango Ibrahim Baba, who formerly headed the Department of Logistics and Supply, where he oversaw critical supply and operational support functions within the force.

Isyaku Mohammed, who served as AIG in charge of Armament at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was also among the officers elevated to the rank of DIG. His role previously involved supervising arms management and ensuring proper coordination of police weaponry across the country.

Another officer promoted is Margaret Agebe Ochalla, formerly the AIG overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos, a key investigative arm responsible for handling complex criminal cases.

The commission also elevated Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, mni, who previously served as AIG in charge of Police Accounts and Budget at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he managed financial planning and budgetary oversight for the force.

Similarly, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc, formerly AIG of Zone 15, Maiduguri, received promotion to DIG, recognizing his contributions to policing operations in the region.

Completing the list is Umar Shehu Nadada, mni, who served as the AIG in charge of Zone 14, Katsina, and has now joined the top leadership cadre of the police as a Deputy Inspector General.
