Residents of Dansadau in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Tuesday confronted a serving lawmaker over allegations of long-standing neglect of his constituency. The incident involved an All Progressives Congress (APC) legislator, Mikailu, who represents Maru South in the state legislature.
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation occurred during the first official visit of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, to the community. Aggrieved residents accused the lawmaker of failing to maintain contact with constituents since his election, alleging that he had not paid courtesy visits, attended community events, or shown support to families affected by bandit attacks.
The protesters further claimed that no meaningful development projects had been executed in the area under the lawmaker’s tenure, despite the severe security challenges facing the community. Dansadau and surrounding areas have been repeatedly affected by banditry, leading to loss of lives, displacement, and economic hardship.
The confrontation unfolded as Governor Lawal flagged off major development initiatives in the area, including the reconstruction of a 90-kilometre road linking key communities, planned upgrades to local healthcare facilities, and commitments to expand access to solar-powered electricity. During the visit, the governor was also honoured with a traditional title by the emir of the area.

The incident has drawn attention to growing public dissatisfaction in parts of northern Nigeria, where residents increasingly demand accountability, visible representation, and effective responses to insecurity from elected officials. Observers note that the episode underscores the widening gap between some lawmakers and their constituencies, particularly in regions grappling with persistent violence and underdevelopment.
