Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have pulled out of the impeachment process initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, marking a notable shift in the ongoing political developments within the state.
The lawmakers are Hon. Mrs. Barile Nwakoh, who currently serves as the Deputy Minority Leader of the Assembly, and Hon. Emilia Amadi. With their withdrawal, the number of Assembly members who have distanced themselves from the impeachment efforts has now risen to four, out of the 26 lawmakers previously associated with the move.
Hon. Mrs. Nwakoh stated that the decision was guided by the need to explore peaceful and constructive alternatives. According to her, the lawmakers are open to resolving the situation through dialogue and political engagement rather than pursuing the outright removal of the governor and his deputy.
She stressed that a political solution would help ease tensions and promote stability in Rivers State, while also preserving democratic values. The Deputy Minority Leader further appealed to other members of the House to reconsider their positions and embrace reconciliation in the interest of governance and unity.
