Sheikh Ahmad Gumi urges President Tinubu to respond firmly to Donald Trump’s alleged military threat against Nigeria.
Kaduna, Nigeria
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive diplomatic action against former U.S. President Donald Trump following his reported threat of military intervention in Nigeria.
In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, Gumi described Trump’s remarks as a blatant insult to Nigeria’s sovereignty and urged the Federal Government to respond firmly to protect the nation’s dignity on the global stage.
“Nigeria is not a country to be bullied or threatened by any external power,” Gumi said. “President Tinubu must make it clear that our sovereignty is non-negotiable.”
The cleric, who is widely respected in northern Nigeria, emphasized that foreign interference in African affairs could destabilize the continent if left unchallenged. He called on other African leaders to stand with Nigeria in defense of the region’s independence and unity.

Gumi also urged the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a formal diplomatic protest against Trump’s statement, describing it as “provocative and unacceptable.”
The Federal Government has not yet issued an official response, but the cleric’s remarks have sparked widespread discussion about Nigeria’s foreign policy stance and the need to safeguard national pride in the face of external pressure.
