Hon. Obi Aguocha, the outspoken Member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, has issued a powerful statement condemning what he describes as the injustice and selective application of the law in the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In his remarks, Aguocha thanked Nigerians who reached out with messages of support and drew historical parallels to global freedom fighters like Nelson Mandela, Abdullah Öcalan, and Marwan Barghouti. He said these leaders were never abandoned by their people, and their imprisonment became a rallying point for justice, human rights, and international awareness.

Aguocha stressed that his stance on Kanu’s case is not political theatre but a principled demand for due process, humane treatment, and equal justice for every Nigerian. “When we allow the erosion of rights for one, we set dangerous precedents for all,” he warned.
He accused “unscrupulous individuals” of exploiting Kanu’s situation to incite unrest in the South-East, adding that as an elected representative, he has a duty to protect the dignity of his constituents and hold institutions accountable.
Calling silence in the face of injustice “a veiled expression of cowardice,” Aguocha said Nigeria cannot afford to abandon its constitutional promises. “Silence has never protected justice,” he declared, urging Nigerians to unite across political and ethnic divides to defend fairness and democratic values.
“Let us continue this conversation not as factions but as Nigerians with shared values of justice, fairness, and nationhood,” he concluded.
