The Armed Forces of Nigeria has announced that sixteen of its officers will face military justice following findings of professional misconduct and breaches of service regulations.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the arrests were made during a routine military exercise that uncovered actions contrary to military ethics and discipline. The affected officers are alleged to have violated various aspects of service conduct, prompting their immediate detention pending further investigation.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the officers’ grievances were primarily linked to perceived career stagnation, particularly due to repeated failures in promotion examinations. These frustrations reportedly influenced their behaviour and decision-making, leading to actions deemed unbefitting of serving officers.

Some of the detained officers were already under military jurisdiction for separate offences and are currently either awaiting trial or undergoing disciplinary hearings. The Defence Headquarters emphasized that such acts of indiscipline threaten the integrity of the Armed Forces and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Brigadier General Gusau reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining professionalism, accountability, and discipline across all ranks. He further assured that all indicted officers will undergo the appropriate military justice procedures in accordance with established rules and codes of conduct.

“The Armed Forces remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discipline. Those found guilty after due process will face the full consequences of their actions,” Gusau stated.

The Nigerian military continues to position itself as a pillar of national unity and security, and officials have reiterated that accountability and ethical behaviour remain non-negotiable in its service structure. The disciplinary measures are expected to serve as a deterrent and reinforce the importance of integrity and loyalty among personnel.

This is not what the entire Nigerians want to hear rather the termination of all the bandits and securing our country from the Boko Haram and the trials of those military officers backing up the bandits and their sponsors.
