Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has pledged to eradicate banditry from the state, unveiling fresh strategies to intensify the fight against the persistent security threat.
Speaking at the 17th regular State Executive Council meeting the final session of the year Governor Aliyu outlined new measures aimed at enhancing intelligence gathering and boosting collaboration with security agencies.
“These initiatives are designed to strengthen our ongoing efforts, which are already yielding positive results. Intelligence remains a key tool in combating criminal activities,” the governor stated. He expressed confidence that the enhanced strategies would enable Sokoto State to confront banditry more effectively.
Governor Aliyu emphasized the crucial role of community support, urging residents to provide timely and accurate information to security agencies. “As a government, we are ready to do all it takes to ensure that banditry becomes history in Sokoto State, but we cannot do it alone,” he said.

For years, banditry has plagued Sokoto State, particularly rural communities, manifesting in violent attacks, kidnappings, livestock theft, and disruptions to socio-economic life. The new measures aim to consolidate gains made so far and ensure lasting peace in the state.
