Sowore alleges a secret plan by the Federal Government to sentence IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to death or life imprisonment, warning of political motives.
Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has raised serious allegations against the Federal Government over the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore claims that there is a covert plan to either hand Kanu a death sentence or impose a lifelong imprisonment as part of a broader political agenda.
Speaking on the development, Sowore criticized the government’s handling of Kanu’s case, describing it as politically motivated rather than driven by justice. He argued that attempts to allegedly influence the trial outcome show a disregard for due legal processes and human rights.
Sowore further insisted that the international community and civil rights organizations must closely monitor the situation to prevent what he termed a “judicial ambush.” He maintained that the push for either capital punishment or life imprisonment reflects a wider effort to silence political dissent and suppress self-determination movements in Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention despite multiple court rulings, both within Nigeria and from international bodies, calling for his release. The case has continued to spark national and global debate, particularly around issues of human rights, rule of law, and ethnic relations in the country.
As tensions surrounding the matter persist, the call for transparency in the judicial process continues to grow, with Sowore urging the public to remain vigilant and demand fairness.
