A resounding call has been made to prominent Igbo elites and stakeholders across the nation to break their silence and rise in unity for justice as the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, remains in detention despite several court pronouncements and growing public outcry.
Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, has expressed grave concern over what he described as “a rabid and dangerous silence” among many well-respected Igbo figures.
According to the lawmaker, “It is glaring and increasingly becoming difficult to dismiss the notion that the rabid silence of many well-noted Igbo elites in the face of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention and injustice is not just caution, but intentional decadence.”

He noted that the time has come for bold, united action. “Now is the time to speak up with one voice courageously,” he declared, stressing that history will not be kind to those who choose silence in the face of oppression.
The statement comes amid growing tension and concern across the Southeast, with many questioning the federal government’s continued refusal to release Kanu despite several legal victories by his legal team.
Aguocha’s remarks are expected to ignite further debate and possibly galvanize action among political leaders, traditional rulers, religious institutions, and intellectuals from the region, as pressure continues to mount for a peaceful resolution and Kanu’s unconditional release.
