Stakeholders across Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have thrown their weight behind a proposal by Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, for the creation of additional local government areas from the existing Ikwuano LGA. Supporters describe the initiative as a forward-looking move capable of deepening grassroots development, strengthening governance, and improving service delivery to residents.
The proposal, which seeks the creation of Ikwuano North and Ikwuano South Local Government Areas, is steadily gaining traction among community leaders, professionals, and development advocates who believe it will unlock new economic and administrative opportunities for the area.
Adding his voice to the growing support, a prominent stakeholder and Founder of the Prince Innocent Eleogu Foundation, Prince Innocent Eleogu, called on all segments of the Ikwuano community to rally behind the initiative. He urged traditional rulers, professionals, youths, and other stakeholders to unite in backing the proposal, noting that it represents a strategic pathway to inclusive growth and effective governance.
Prince Eleogu described the proposed local governments as a catalyst for accelerated development, stating that decentralising administration would bring government closer to the people. According to him, the move would enable faster responses to community needs, stimulate investment, create jobs, and expand opportunities for local businesses.
He further noted that the establishment of additional local government areas would fast-track the development of critical infrastructure such as roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other social amenities, while also enhancing Ikwuano’s political visibility and influence within Abia State and at the national level.
Commending Hon. Aguocha’s leadership, Prince Eleogu praised the lawmaker for what he termed consistent, courageous, and people-focused representation. He said the federal legislator has remained committed to policies and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents and advancing the long-term interests of Ikwuano.
The stakeholder also referenced recent commendations by his team to the Abia State Government for its intervention in key infrastructure projects in the area, including the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road and the Ariam–Usaka Ring Road. He noted that these projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity and boost economic activities across Ikwuano.
Calling for collective action, Prince Eleogu appealed to traditional institutions, community leaders, youth and women groups, and professionals at home and in the diaspora to actively support the proposed bill. He emphasized that unity, sustained advocacy, and constructive engagement would be crucial to translating the proposal into reality.
“This is a defining moment for Ikwuano. With shared commitment and a common vision, this initiative can reshape our development trajectory and secure a better future for our people,” he said.
