Hundreds of outraged residents, predominantly youths, staged a mass protest in Onosa, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday following the alleged killing of an unarmed man by police officers the previous night. The incident also left two others critically injured and receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The demonstration began early in the morning as news of the shooting spread across the community. Protesters blocked major roads with burning tyres and barricades, paralyzing traffic flow within Onosa and adjoining routes.

Videos obtained by Politics Nigeria captured scenes of angry crowds chanting as security operatives attempted to maintain order. One disturbing clip showed the victim’s body lying inside a vehicle, while residents demanded justice and accountability.

“The protest was against the police in Ibeju-Lekki after the killing of an unarmed citizen. It happened at Onosa,” a resident confirmed.
“Two people are in the hospital now,” another eyewitness added.
Community Demands Justice
Community members accused the police of using excessive force and called on the Lagos State government and the Nigerian Police Force to investigate the incident thoroughly. They demanded that officers involved be identified, prosecuted, and held accountable to restore public trust.
As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the matter.
Echoes of #EndSARS
The development has reignited public fears over police brutality nearly five years after the historic #EndSARS protests, which exposed widespread allegations of extrajudicial killings, extortion, and torture by security operatives. Despite the federal government’s disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on October 11, 2020, human rights groups say cases of unlawful arrests and excessive use of force remain rampant, raising serious concerns about accountability within the Nigerian police system.
