Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Soludo has raised alarm over the sophisticated weaponry possessed by insurgents operating in the state, claiming they have firepower capable of downing aircraft.
During a Channels TV interview, Professor Soludo detailed the alarming arsenal at the insurgents’ disposal. “You see them with GPMG, you see them with AK47s, and in fact, they have the kind of weapons that can even bring down aircrafts,” he warned. “They have the IEDs that they lay even on the road and even in bushes.”
The governor revealed how these criminal groups employ advanced surveillance technology to protect their operations. “When they come, they come with CCTV cameras to secure themselves and just to secure their criminal enterprise,” Soludo explained.
Despite these challenges, he emphasized the state’s ongoing counteroffensive. “We are tracking them down and taking them out in dozens, almost on a daily basis,” Soludo stated. “And that is the reason why we have this Homeland Security Law, and I’m sure many people are also studying it. Several other states are studying it, and it is to get down to the roots, the foundations of society, the ideology, and the theology that fuels this kind of criminality.”
The governor has recently launched a series of demolition projects targeting specific properties across Anambra. These operations have resulted in the destruction of several houses and hotels that investigations revealed were being used as kidnappers’ hideouts. This aggressive approach comes as part of Soludo’s broader strategy to root out criminal elements entrenched within the state.
