President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 Nigerian ambassadors and high commissioners to various diplomatic missions across the world, including the United Nations. The announcement was made in a State House press release issued by the Presidency.
The list includes 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were previously confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December. The appointments are part of efforts by the administration to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation and international partnerships.
According to the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already begun diplomatic processes with host countries and international organizations to finalize the deployment of the envoys.
Non-Career Ambassadors Assigned to Strategic Missions
Among the prominent non-career ambassadors approved by the President are several political figures, technocrats, and public personalities who will represent Nigeria in key countries.
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been posted to Mexico, while Femi Fani-Kayode will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany. Former Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole has been assigned to Canada, and Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd.) will represent Nigeria in China.
Other notable postings include Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.
Several other non-career envoys were assigned to diplomatic missions across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, including Japan, France, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Qatar, and South Korea.
Career Diplomats Also Assigned to Foreign Missions
Alongside the political appointees, 34 career diplomats from Nigeria’s foreign service were posted to various embassies and high commissions worldwide.
Some of the missions assigned to career ambassadors include Egypt, Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, Iran, Malaysia, Kenya, Senegal, Algeria, Ghana, and India. Others will serve in Botswana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Jamaica, Zambia, Burkina Faso, and Sierra Leone.
These appointments ensure a balance between experienced diplomats and non-career representatives in Nigeria’s international engagements.
Diplomatic Clearances Already Received
The Presidency revealed that some host countries have already granted agrément, the formal diplomatic approval required before an ambassador assumes duty.
For instance, the United Kingdom has approved the appointment of Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as Nigeria’s High Commissioner, while France has issued agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining 62 ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries, requesting similar approvals in accordance with international diplomatic procedures.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately organize an induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners.

The orientation is expected to prepare the envoys for their diplomatic responsibilities, including strengthening Nigeria’s foreign relations, promoting economic partnerships, and protecting the interests of Nigerian citizens abroad.
The development marks a significant step in restoring full diplomatic representation for Nigeria across global missions.
