President Tinubu reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom and tolerance, addressing allegations of religious genocide with constitutional clarity.
The Federal Republic of Nigeria remains a steadfast democracy founded upon constitutional guarantees that uphold the freedom of religion and belief for all citizens. This enduring principle continues to guide the nation’s governance, unity, and collective identity.
Addressing recent allegations of religious genocide, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by the rule of law and the protection of human rights. He emphasized that the government’s unwavering commitment to religious liberty reflects the spirit and letter of the Nigerian Constitution.
Since 2023, the administration of President Tinubu has sustained open and constructive engagement with leaders of both the Christian and Muslim communities. These efforts are aimed at strengthening interfaith understanding, promoting peaceful coexistence, and addressing security challenges that affect citizens across all faiths and regions.

According to the President, the characterization of Nigeria as a nation of religious intolerance does not represent the national reality. Millions of Nigerians continue to coexist peacefully, united by shared values of respect, tolerance, and mutual understanding. The government’s consistent and genuine efforts to protect religious freedoms demonstrate its dedication to upholding equality for all.
Religious tolerance and freedom remain central to Nigeria’s identity. The administration of President Tinubu categorically rejects any form of religious persecution and continues to implement policies that protect the rights and dignity of every Nigerian, regardless of faith.
