President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos to kick off a series of strategic engagements ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary on October 1, 2025. According to the Presidency, the Independence commemoration will be “low-key” but symbolically significant, reflecting the administration’s focus on unity and nation-building.

Tinubu Arrives Lagos for Working Visit

The President returned to Lagos on Friday, September 26, after attending the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Oyo State. The event drew notable leaders and dignitaries from across Nigeria. Lagos will serve as Tinubu’s operational base in the lead-up to Independence Day.

High-Level Meetings with Private Sector Leaders

During his stay in Lagos, President Tinubu is expected to meet with senior government officials and influential private sector leaders. Presidency sources confirmed that the discussions will focus on strengthening Nigeria’s economy, boosting investor confidence, and fostering a more business-friendly environment.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that these interactions are central to Tinubu’s economic renewal agenda and are designed to engage stakeholders directly in policy discussions.

Commissioning of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts

Another highlight of the Independence Day build-up will be the commissioning of the remodelled National Theatre in Lagos, now renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts. The Presidency described the move as a tribute to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and to Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, one of Africa’s most celebrated literary icons.

A Symbolic but Low-Key Independence Anniversary

The Presidency emphasized that the 65th Independence anniversary will be modest but symbolic. The activities scheduled are intended to reaffirm Tinubu’s commitment to nation-building, unity, and economic transformation.
