Troops rescue 180 kidnapped victims, arrest 450 terrorists, destroy illegal refineries worth ₦100m nationwide.
In a powerful show of force and coordination, Nigerian troops have achieved a series of major victories across multiple theatres of operation, rescuing 180 kidnapped victims, arresting 450 terrorists, bandits, and criminal elements, and forcing 39 insurgents to surrender in September 2025 alone.
The Defence Headquarters disclosed these achievements in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, who detailed the impressive outcomes of ongoing security efforts across the country. He described the operations as “relentless, intelligence-driven, and results-oriented,” stressing that the Armed Forces remain committed to dismantling every network threatening the safety and unity of Nigeria.

According to the statement, troops conducted several clearance operations, ambushes, and air interdictions targeting terrorist enclaves and criminal hideouts across the North East, North West, and North Central regions. The coordinated attacks led to the neutralization and arrest of numerous insurgents, the liberation of captives, and the recovery of vital weapons used to terrorize communities.
“Our troops have demonstrated exceptional bravery, professionalism, and patriotism. Their combined efforts have significantly degraded the operational capacity of criminal elements across the nation,” Major General Kangye stated.
Massive Arms and Ammunition Recovered
The Defence Headquarters further revealed that the operations led to the recovery of 63 assorted firearms and 4,475 rounds of ammunition, including machine guns, AK-47 rifles, and locally fabricated weapons. These recoveries, Kangye noted, represent a critical step in curbing the flow of illegal arms that fuel violence in the country.
39 Terrorists Surrender, More Seek Amnesty
In a growing trend that underscores the effectiveness of military pressure, 39 terrorists voluntarily surrendered to Nigerian troops. Oil Thieves Hit Hard in Niger Delta
Beyond counter-terrorism, troops operating under Operation Delta Safe intensified efforts against oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta. The operation successfully destroyed 41 illegal refining sites and intercepted crude oil worth over ₦100 million, a development the military described as a major blow to the economic saboteurs draining national revenue.
“Every illegal refinery destroyed represents millions of naira recovered for the nation. The fight against oil theft is crucial to restoring the integrity of our economy,” Kangye noted.
Renewed Commitment to National Security
The Defence Headquarters commended all troops for their sacrifice and unwavering dedication to national duty. It also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations until total peace is achieved across all regions.
Major General Kangye urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible intelligence that can aid rapid response to criminal activities. He emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility, not just a military mission.
“We must stand together against terror, banditry, and economic sabotage. The success of our operations depends not only on military strength but also on the cooperation of citizens,” he stated.
