By the power of intellectual ventilation and pieces of knowledge duly assembled from inquiries, one can conveniently posit a HUMANIST as someone who prioritizes and emphasizes the VALUE and the AGENCY of human-beings individually and collectively;he deliberately dives into critical thinking for the well-being of his fellow man;he makes rational inquiries and approaches challenges with a sound, logical and purposeful mindset.
A HUMANIST believes in the essentialism of ethics or principles as they relate to man in his nature and environment;he seeks the dignity of man, promotes equality/equity,social and natural justice…
He’s open-minded,tolerant yet firm, compassionate; sympathetic and empathetic when necessary even as he cherishes value diversity and inclusivity…
Indeed,in the heart of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency a revolution is breeding-a revolution being powered by the visionary commitment, sincerity of purpose and dignified eloquence of HON.OBI AGUOCHA representing the constituency in the green-chamber of the National assembly,Abuja
From rural men/women dealing on palm oil or spices at ogwumabiri market, Umuahia, through youth start -ups, scholarships to other enterprise supports,Hon.Aguocha leads in their purposefulness just as he offers his shoulders to the weary..
The name,OBI AGUOCHA,is meticulously rising not only in purposeful representation but redefining the value of representation in public service.
In the ever luring corridor of the National Assembly with its potentials for distraction,Hon.Obi Aguocha stands his full length refusing to be enveloped by the enticing human luxury of that environment…he chose the CONCERNS of his constituents rooted in their daily concerns of life .He thinks home;he thinks about the youths;he thinks about the rural men/women, he even thinks about bereaved families of his constituency. At various events private or public, the physical height and presence of this almost seven-footer is felt NOT with the blaring of sirens but through a heat-felt conversion and hands -on ground strategy. This is real! Precisely,on June 2,2025,he paid surprise visits to eight families of his constituency which at one time or the other lost their beloved ones while duty engaged him in Abuja. This is not politics rather giving meaning to representation beyond legislative imperatives of a legislator;demonstrating a heart that unambiguously chose the people as his priority;he understands that genuine representation doesn’t involve intimidation or arrogance of power or flamboyancy rather fellowship-feeling and fillings as made manifest in his “unapologetic commitment” to the fate of one of his constituents (Nnamdi Kanu, who was his junior both at Methodist College,Uzuakoli and Government College, Umuahia).
Be it known that these character traits are not later-day acquisitions…if anything, they are inherent… like father, like son; his father,a medical doctor turned politician, late Pa Onyebuchi Aguocha, was the Health Commissioner during the revered Dee Sam Mbakwe days in governance and, be assured that he demonstrated “sincerity of purpose”.
Some deliberate steps backwards: about 18 years ago, when Obi Aguocha returned from USA to the soil of his root Nkwoegwu,Ohuhu, Umuahia,in God’s own land,Abia State,he conceptualized and propagated a philosophy: OTU OBI (one mind)as he was not comfortable with the level of bickerings, gossips, disunity among individuals and groups or associations in his community…he began to preach peace, love, forgiveness, tolerance, collective progress imbedded in oneness of mind. This is the robust spirit of man evidently committed to his people.
Perhaps, late Fela Kuti, the Afrobeat musician had Hon.Obi Aguocha in mind when in one of his lyrics,he(Fela), said:water no get enemy..Hon Obi Aguocha,no get enemy;he dines and wines with all and sundry including those who consider themselves as his detractors.
Two years ago, shortly after the general election,Obi Aguocha successfully contended with twelve electoral litigations but from his robust mind of brotherhood,he said “election and its challenges are over; politics should not divide us or jeopardize our collective interest and heritage… I will be your servant representative in purposefulness and sincerity irrespective of political leans”,and, “SO BE IT RENTED THE AIR”even as it re-echoes for the years ahead.
