Reno Omokri, former presidential aide and Nigeria’s ex–non-career ambassador, has opened up on his political stance and deep admiration for the Igbo people during a visit to the residence of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. The visit, which has since sparked public conversations, was shared by Omokri in a video posted on his Instagram page on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Speaking during the meeting, Omokri expressed profound respect for Senator Kalu, describing him as a patriot whose character transcends ethnic and religious boundaries. According to him, his admiration for the former Abia State governor is rooted in long-term personal observations dating back to Kalu’s early years in Maiduguri.

Omokri described Senator Kalu as a “true Nigerian” who embodies unity and national commitment beyond tribal or religious considerations. He noted that these qualities are not widely recognized by the public, stressing that his personal knowledge of Kalu’s background informed his high regard for the senator.

Addressing criticisms surrounding his political choices, Omokri clarified his opposition to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. He explained that his stance was driven purely by political loyalty and national interest, not ethnic bias.

According to Omokri, Peter Obi contested against the candidate of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He revealed that he played a strategic role in uniting party stakeholders and felt obligated to work tirelessly to ensure his party’s electoral success.
Omokri further stated that following the Supreme Court’s judgment on the 2022 presidential election delivered on October 26, he fully aligned himself with the Nigerian state and its leadership. He emphasized that his actions after the ruling were guided by loyalty to the country and respect for constitutional authority, expressing confidence that he made the right decision.
Rejecting claims that his political positions were harmful to Nigeria, Omokri described such views as misconceptions. He insisted that his public commentary and advocacy have always been driven by patriotism and national unity.

Highlighting his longstanding appreciation for the Igbo people, Omokri pointed to his extensive writing history. He disclosed that over an eight-year period, he authored 17 articles celebrating the Igbo ethnic group an effort he says reflects genuine admiration and respect.

He added that his writings rarely focused on his own ethnic background, stressing that such consistent praise of the Igbo people would not be possible without sincere affection and regard for their contributions to Nigeria.
