Tinubu reappoints Buba Marwa as NDLEA chairman for another five years, extending his leadership to 2031 after major achievements in Nigeria’s anti-drug fight.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.) as the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), extending his tenure for an additional five years. With this new mandate, Marwa is expected to lead Nigeria’s top anti-narcotics agency until 2031.
Marwa, who first assumed office in January 2021, has been widely credited for revitalizing the NDLEA and intensifying the nation’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse. Under his leadership, the agency recorded groundbreaking achievements — arresting more than 73,000 drug offenders, securing thousands of convictions, seizing over 15 million kilograms of illicit substances, and destroying expansive cannabis plantations across the country.
President Tinubu commended Marwa’s exceptional performance, describing it as a major boost to national security and youth protection efforts. He urged the NDLEA chairman to sustain the momentum and remain steadfast in shielding young Nigerians from the dangers of drug abuse and the criminal networks that fuel it.
