PDP faction loyal to Nyesom Wike suspends National Chairman Umar Damagum and five NWC members over alleged misconduct and indiscipline.
A new wave of political tension has hit the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a faction backed by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, along with five other key members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
During a press briefing held in Abuja on Saturday, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who spoke on behalf of the factional NWC, disclosed that Mohammed Abdulrahman, the National Vice Chairman (North Central), has been appointed as the Acting National Chairman of the party.
According to Anyanwu, the decision followed allegations of incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for internal and court directives by the suspended officials.
“We have decided to suspend the National Chairman, Ambassador Ilya Damagum, for one month pending investigation by the Disciplinary Committee. His suspension is based on incompetence, financial irregularities, and disobedience to court orders,” Anyanwu stated.
The faction also announced the suspension of other senior party officials, including:
Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary – for issuing unauthorized statements.
Taofeek Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman (South) – for alleged misconduct.
Daniel Woyenguikoro, National Financial Secretary – over allegations of financial mismanagement.
Sulaiman Kadade, National Youth Leader – for acts of indiscipline.
Setonji Koshoedo, Deputy National Secretary – for breaching party protocols.
