Tensions reached a boiling point at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State engaged in a heated confrontation over control of the party’s administrative headquarters.
The dramatic scene unfolded at the Wuse Zone 5 Secretariat where both camps arrived with their preferred claimants to the office of National Secretary, intensifying an already fragile leadership crisis within the opposition party.
According to ARISE News correspondent Mary Chinda, security operatives loyal to both sides clashed in a chaotic struggle for dominance. The confrontation quickly escalated into a free-for-all, with heavy teargas fired repeatedly around the premises as each faction attempted to assert authority over the building.
Governor Makinde entered the secretariat accompanied by Taofeek Arapaja, who was recently elected as the new National Secretary by his faction of the party. On the other side, Wike stood firm with Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary who maintains that his tenure remains valid until December 8, 2025.

The power tussle has heightened anxiety among party stakeholders. Several leaders have condemned the situation, accusing security agencies particularly the Police of taking sides instead of maintaining neutrality in the escalating leadership dispute.
As tensions persist, concerns grow over how the deepening division may affect the PDP’s national cohesion and readiness ahead of upcoming political cycles.
