Wike dismisses Trump’s claim labeling Nigeria a “country of concern,” calling it political and unfounded.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the recent statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who labeled Nigeria a “country of concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.
Speaking at an event, Wike said he found it amusing that some people had urged him not to comment on Trump’s remarks. “Before I came in here, many people texted me, saying, ‘Oh, please don’t speak about Trump,’ and I just laughed. I’m Nigerian, I’m a Christian, my father is a pastor, and my entire family are Christians. This is politics taken too far,” he stated.
Wike stressed that the allegation of a Christian genocide in Nigeria was baseless and politically motivated. He emphasized that no government in Nigeria would ever turn a blind eye to the suffering of any religious group.
“We must understand that the survival and unity of this country are in our collective interest,” he said. “I don’t know where the Trump administration is getting its information from, but no one can claim that this government is allowing any religion to be eliminated.”
