The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has faulted the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (rtd), for his alleged failure to appropriately address a land dispute involving the Nigerian Navy.
Speaking on the matter, Wike expressed concern that Gambo did not seek ministerial dialogue or intervention to resolve the issue. He described the former naval chief’s approach as dismissive and contrary to lawful administrative conduct.
“He couldn’t just say, ‘Okay, let me go to the minister and see how he can help us.’ No, nothing like that, simply because you had a relationship with the military, and the government cannot impose laws. Who does that? How can this country progress?” Wike remarked.
The FCT Minister stressed that no government agency or official, regardless of their position or affiliation, is above the law. He maintained that all land-related matters within the Federal Capital Territory must follow due process and established regulations.

Wike further warned that disregard for lawful procedures undermines good governance and national development. According to him, progress can only be achieved when all institutions respect administrative boundaries and operate within the framework of the law.
