Led by Abia state representative Rtr. Eleanya Deborah Chinonso, Accompanied by National director, directorate of states Comrade, Abibo Sampson Daniel, and her Enugu counterpart Miss Eze Chinemerem Cynthia, the delegation met with Hon. Chinedu Nwosu RChp, Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs to propose a public health awareness campaign across public tertiary and basic campuses in Abia State.
The campaign, which is designed to educate young people on the dangers of cybercrime, digital addiction, and drug abuse, aims to induce decency and promote positive values among youths in the state.

According to the delegation, the choice of Abia State for the pilot phase of the campaign was informed by the state government’s commitment to education and youth development. The delegation expressed admiration for the governor’s leadership style and the current government’s disposition towards addressing critical issues affecting young people.

The proposed campaign will focus on digital addictions, explicit content, and cybercrimes, which have been identified as major challenges facing young people in the state. Recent events involving students of UNIZIK and UNIPORT, who were allegedly involved in reckless behavior due to TikTok addiction, have underscored the need for urgent intervention.

To address these challenges, the delegation proposed government interventions, including parental control regimentation by the Nigerian Communication Commission and National Identity Management Commission. These measures are designed to prevent explicit content and protect young people from the dangers of cybercrime.

The delegation urged youths to engage with the campaign and to stay tuned for further developments and seek collaboration with the state government to ensure the success of the program. They also thanked the governor for his hospitality and education reforms, which have had a positive impact on the state.

The prospective partnership between the Youth Anti-Corruption Society of Nigeria and the Abia State Government is expected to yield positive results in the fight against cybercrime, digital addiction, and drug abuse among young people in the state.
