Abia Labour Party Releases Fresh Guidelines, Collation Centres Ahead of 2027 Primaries

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has released updated guidelines and operational details for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, with voting scheduled to hold simultaneously across the 184 wards in the state.

In a statement dated May 27, 2026, and signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Peter Azubuike, alongside the State Secretary, Barr. Chuks Akamadu, the party said the exercise would commence by 9:00am on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

According to the notice, the primaries will cover the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly positions. The State Working Committee (SWC) stated that the exercise is being conducted in line with existing electoral guidelines and Labour Party rules governing consensus and affirmative primary elections.

The party also announced the designated agents for each category of election. Ward Chairmen are expected to oversee governorship primaries, while Vice Chairmen I will supervise senatorial contests. Ward Secretaries are assigned to handle House of Representatives primaries, while Youth Leaders will coordinate State Assembly elections.

To ensure smooth coordination, the Labour Party published a comprehensive list of constituency collation centres across Abia State. Several schools and local government secretariats were selected as official collation venues for the exercise.

Among the listed centres are Howill Crescent Primary School for Aba Central, Boys Technical College for Aba North, Umuagbai Primary School for Aba South, and Williams Memorial Secondary School for Umuahia North. Other locations include various LGA secretariats across the state.

The party further released the names and contact details of returning officers for State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate primaries. Separate collation centres were also unveiled for senatorial districts and federal constituencies.

For the governorship primary, the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, was named as the official collation centre, while the party’s National Secretariat will serve as the governorship returning officer.
