Three Shops Swallowed by Erosion in Emede Attah Ibeku, Umuahia as Residents Cry for Urgent Help
Residents of Attah Emede Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, are calling for urgent government intervention following a worsening erosion disaster that has already swallowed three shops into a deep valley.
According to residents, the gully erosion continues to expand, threatening more buildings, businesses, and lives within the community. They warned that if immediate action is not taken, more properties could collapse, leaving many families displaced and cutting off access to parts of the area.
Community members have appealed to Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Ministry of Environment, emergency management agencies, and relevant federal authorities to urgently assess the site and implement erosion control measures.

Abia authorities have also recently warned about increased flood and erosion risks associated with heavy rainfall during the 2026 rainy season.
